What a loan actually costs

A headline interest rate is not the price of a loan. Processing fees, tenure, prepayment charges and GST all move the real number, and lenders are not required to put them in one place. We do. Everything below runs on standard formulas and RBI-published rules, with every assumption written down.

Which question are you actually asking?

“How much can I borrow?” Lenders answer this with a ratio, not a feeling. Start with FOIR, the ratio Indian banks actually apply, and run your own numbers in the FOIR calculator. The DTI calculator gives a lender-agnostic second opinion. For a property specifically, read how home loan eligibility is assessed and use the home loan eligibility calculator.

“What will it cost me every month?” The EMI calculator works for any loan; the home loan and personal loan versions come pre-set to those products. If you want the affordability question rather than the arithmetic, how much EMI can you actually afford works it through with real numbers.

“I earn ₹50,000. What does that get me?” Two guides answer this directly: how much loan or EMI on a ₹50,000 salary across personal, home and car loans, and how much home loan on ₹50,000, which adds the Loan-to-Value check most estimates leave out.

“I have spare money — should I clear the loan early?” Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and the charge decides it. Home loan prepayment is usually free on floating rates by RBI rule; personal loan prepayment usually is not. Run yours through the prepayment calculator or the foreclosure calculator where a closure charge applies.

“I am borrowing for a business.” Lenders read a business application through DSCR before almost anything else. What DSCR measures and where EBITDA misleads, and the DSCR calculator to check yours.

Not a lending service

We are not a bank, an NBFC or a lending service provider. We do not accept loan applications, we do not pass your details to lenders, and there is no form on this site that leads to one.

Every figure is indicative

Our calculators use the standard reducing-balance formula and the rules lenders publish. Your actual sanction depends on the lender’s own credit policy, which no calculator can see.

How we make money

Where a link earns us a commission we say so on the page. It never changes what a calculator returns or how a guide is written. How we make money.
